Christmas at no 19
No 19 is a house made for celebrating, and this December, Christmas cheer flows beyond the front door. Winter berries and foliage explode above the broken scroll pediment in a perfect marriage of art and science. Passers-by come and adore Miss Pickering’s wreath, while Pearl Bugg’s wild yet beautifully composed festive fireplace draws curious noses to our windowpanes.
Inside our lanterns glow and an oversized 19th century wine cistern excels in its intended purpose! We have also been fortunate enough to borrow some wonderful contemporary ceramics from our friends at The New Craftsmen. Pots and plates by Iva Polochova, Charlotte McLeish, John Julian, Camilla Bliss, Akiko Hirai and Abigail Schama have shone from cabinets and shadowy corners. It was almost painful to hand these treasures back.
People have decorated the space very pleasingly too – with team, friends and family sharing the festivities.
For now, this Christmas eve, it’s time for us to close the door and enjoy the sound of silence.
Wishing you all love, joy and peace.
Merry Christmas!
