A tale of the unexpected
Our work is never the same twice thanks to our many design variations and the variations inherent in working with naturally evolving materials. Even our chameleon-like made-to-measure pieces, offer a dizzying number of possible permutations. Beyond our mainstay made-to-measure work, we spend about one month a year working on fully bespoke pieces.
Starting with a completely blank canvas means the decision to commission a bespoke piece is not taken lightly by anyone involved. For our clients, it’s an investment in time and cash, and for us, it can be a challenge to keep everyone on the same page. It’s why we ask so many questions upfront. As a collaborative creative exercise, it is thrilling. The excited exchanges between the client and design team, the negotiations between the studio and workshop, the challenges of sourcing materials and components and developing niche techniques all lead to a perfect storm of creativity, which is delicately harnessed to produce the right result!
Our workshop team live for this chance to exercise their skills. For our clients, it’s an opportunity to create an object with meaning and resonance – something that will become part of the fabric of home.
An unexpected bonding takes place between all parties as a piece is made manifest in wood, metal, glass or whatever the vision demands. Unsurprisingly the bond between owner and object is not just one of momentary joy, but of a lasting emotional investment. To encourage you to imagine the possibilities, we’ve set up a new bespoke section on our website here. To explore ideas, please get in touch.
